“…this nation …shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.” Gettysburg Address, Abraham Lincoln, November 19, 1863
Two-hundred thirty-two years ago, our forefathers set forth a Declaration of Independence that has enabled the largest movement of freedom known to man. For over two centuries, generations have defended the unalienable rights outlined in our Declaration and Constitution. These rights need to be preserved, cherished, honored, and shared. This is a defining principle of the Republican Party.
The following beliefs define who we are as Republicans:
We believe that liberty, individual responsibility, free speech, religious belief, and equal opportunity form the foundation of our nation. We believe in limited, efficient government that practices fiscal responsibility and is transparent, free of corruption, and works to find workable solutions on behalf of the people. We believe that ultimately, power is vested in the people – not in government, elected and appointed officials, or in unelected judges. These entities serve on behalf of the people. We believe in using a full mix of public and private initiatives to help the less fortunate help themselves in times of hardship (economic, natural disaster, etc.).
At the federal level, we support efforts to protect the Bill of Rights, preserve and strengthen Social Security, improve and protect the environment, strengthen border protection, reform immigration, reform healthcare, lower taxes and spending, keep our nation strong and safe, and advance economic policies that will help the free market system create jobs and prosperity.
At the state level, we support efforts to lower the tax burden, limit borrowing and spending, empower the education system, end pay-to-play politics, strengthen ethics rules, stop eminent domain abuse, and end a system that favors incumbent politicians, big-money donors and political machines.
At the county/local level, we support property tax reform, ending pay-to-play politics, streamlining government, increasing shared services and programs, reducing waste and unnecessary spending, and holding our elected officials accountable to the taxpayers. .
